Hi John,
Based on your description, when the file is protected the co-authoring doesn't work, so we propose you try the following:
1. Delete the Cache in Office Upload Center and check whether you can save or non.
To do information technology:
Click on Windows key> Enter Office Upload Centre> Click on it to Open up> Settings> Delete cached file> Ok.
2. If even so cannot salve, bank check in another device and come across whether error occurs.
If still issue persists, delight provide the post-obit:
1. Does the issue occurs only with specific file?
2. Screenshot of the error encountered.
Regards,
Chitrahaas

Hi Chitrahaas
I am afraid that deleting the Cache did non seem to help equally I am however getting the aforementioned trouble.
Despite being the only person that knows the countersign to modify this file, it is still maxim "UPLOAD FAILED Your file wasn't uploaded because your changes cannot be merged with changes fabricated by someone else".
I am perplexed!
I have accessed this file from another PC and the same problem occurs.
Screenshot below
Whatever help profoundly appreciated.
John

Hi John,
Thanks for writing back to united states and providing the screenshot.
To narrow down the issue, can you please check whether the issue occurs to the other files in SharePoint site while yous're saving after the edit or only to the specific file.
In add-on, we suggest you copy the data in the problematic Excel file and paste it in new Excel workbook for working and check whether it works.
Thanks,
Chitrahaas

Hi
Thank you for help thus far, but unfortunately still an issue with no solution as yet.
Stacy clark_45 posted the post-obit thread https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/all/co-authoring-excel-merging-problems/bcd071eb-db8f-4f20-a62f-fa4a2d3521a4, just my situation is much simpler than this.
Nosotros are not trying to co-author this spreadsheet. I am the only user making modifications to it (and am the simply one who has the 'modify' password. The other users are simply opening as a 'read only' file.
After over again getting the "UPLOAD FAILED Your file wasn't....." mistake message, I saved a copy under a new file name. I closed the new file, reopened it (using the modify password), made an amendment and immediately got the same error message. No one but me had fifty-fifty opened this new file and even so become the issue.
What on earth is going on?!!!
John

Hullo John/all,
Ive been experiencing the same issue today. to trouble shoot, I've disabled the password protection on the sheet and the problem has gone abroad.
Problem is, that'southward non great if the spreadsheet needs countersign protecting.
While this doesn't solve the result, hopefully this helps narrow downwards a potential fix.
Thanks

Howdy John,
We sorry for taking long time to narrow downwardly the problem y'all're facing, every bit nosotros cannot reproduce the problem at our end.
As we initially stated in the beginning reply of this thread that co-authoring doesn't piece of work when you work on the Excel files with password protection. (Based on our test)
For example: If there is file in the SharePoint Site with User A and User B as members of the site, User A has a password only to open up the sheet and User B two password for opening and editing it.
If the User A (having password merely to open information technology) opened first, the Excel file opens and ask for password to open up, User A will can edit the Excel file if he has password to edit.
If the User B (having password to open and edit) opened later on the User A, then Excel file gives a notification saying that it was locked for editing by some other users (though they don't have the password to Edit)
As you mentioned " I saved a copy under a new file name. I closed the new file, reopened information technology", tin can you please try to copy the data in the Excel file and open up a new Excel workbook> Right-Click> Paste Special> select only values and formulas> ok> Save information technology and upload to SharePoint> Open the Excel file from SharePoint site and make some changes> Save> Check whether the Excel file is saving or not.
Additionally, tin can y'all also give a try to suggestion provided by MWaters84 and check whether you tin can save or non.
@MWaters84 thanks for providing the proposition.
Regards,
Chitrahaas

Hi
Have copied the data and 'pasted special' (values and formulas) into new piece of work volume. Saved and fabricated edits, but still returned the same error.
Nevertheless based on @Mwaters84 proposition (Thank you very much), I did the same again, just on saving the file, I left the 'password to open up file' field blank and only set a password to alter instead. The positive news is that this seems to be working; I can make edits and salve the file without any effect.
The negative news yet is that this file contains client personal data and nether the new EU information protection rules, not having a password to open the file puts me in breach of those regulations and therefore I am still not out of the woods.
This is a temporary work effectually, simply not a set to the issue.
Cheers all for your help to date............much appreciated.
John

Hi John,
Thanks for writing back to us and nosotros're sorry for the delay response.
From the replies and performing tests at our end, we advise y'all add together your vote and provide feedback in the Excel UserVoice (Allow autosave/co-authoring for password protected workbooks) every bit related team can take into consideration by allowing it.
In improver, as a workaround, you tin can use the SharePoint Permissions to give the users only Read permission (though it doesn't satisfy your needs, but its best way to prevent users from edit).
We appreciate your understanding.
Thanks,
Chitrahaas
